Jordan, US sign four-year strategic cooperation agreement

AMMAN — Jordan and the United States on Tuesday signed a four-year bilateral strategic objective agreement worth $354.6 million to support the Kingdom's national development priorities under the Economic Modernisation Vision.
 
The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and the US Ambassador to Jordan, Jim Holtsnider, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
 
The agreement is the first of its kind with the current US administration and is aligned with Washington's new approach to foreign assistance.
 
The funding will support a range of priority programmes and projects aimed at advancing Jordan's economic reform agenda, with a focus on long-term water security, economic resilience and greater self-reliance, Petra said.
 
Planned investments will target key sectors including water and sanitation, energy, education, tourism and economic opportunities, with the aim of improving public services and supporting sustainable development.
 
Toukan described Jordan-US relations as a strategic partnership built on mutual respect, adding that the United States remains a key development partner for the Kingdom.
 
She said that the government would continue to direct international assistance towards promoting economic growth and improving essential infrastructure and services for citizens.
 
Toukan added that the signing of the agreement sends a clear message about the resilience of Jordan's economy and reflects the confidence of international partners in the Kingdom's ability to continue its programme of economic reform and development

The ministry said that the agreement underscores the depth of the long-standing strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States while reinforcing economic cooperation between the two countries.
 
It added that the funding will be allocated to priority development projects and programmes in coordination with relevant ministries and government institutions to support the implementation of the Economic Modernisation Vision and help achieve its objectives.
