AMMAN — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Friday conveyed a verbal message from His Majesty King Abdullah to Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on the importance of enhancing bilateral ties and joint Arab cooperation to address regional challenges.  

 

In the message, the King noted that he is looking forward to visiting Tunisia upon an invitation from President Essebsi, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

 

The Tunisian president conveyed his greetings to His Majesty, expressing appreciation for Jordan’s efforts to enhance Arab cooperation and coordination and determination to boost the Jordanian-Tunisian relations in all fields, according to the statement.  

 

In his message to President Essebsi, the King addressed preparations for the 30th Arab League Summit in Tunisia. 

 

The president stressed that Jordanian-Tunisian ties and views converge on various regional and international issues.

 

Safadi on Thursday met with his Tunisian counterpart Khamis Al Jheinawi in Tunis. 

The two ministers said that Jordan and Tunisia are working on developing cooperation and ties in defence, economy and trade fields, as well as enhancing coordination on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

 

The two top diplomats also presided over the second meeting of the joint political consultation committee, which was formed by the two countries to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination on all issues of mutual interest.

 

During the meeting of the joint committee, the ministers signed a memorandum of understanding to organise periodical meetings on furthering cooperation and consultation.

 

The two sides also discussed prospects of economic, trade and investment relations and the agreements that need to be signed to finalise the legal framework for joint cooperation.

 

They also went over preparations Tunisia is making to host the March 2019 Arab summit, with Safadi offering the Kingdom’s full support to rendering the meeting a success.
