The Syrian pound has experienced a sharp and unprecedented collapse, coinciding with political developments in the country and the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
In Damascus, the currency depreciated by 42 percent, with the US dollar trading at 22,000 Syrian pounds, according to the currency-tracking site Syria Today.
The decline was even steeper in Aleppo, where the pound dropped by 64 percent, with the dollar reaching 36,000 Syrian pounds.
