Jordan’s General Iftaa' Department issued 12,370 fatwas during the first week of Ramadan, which included 208 confirmed divorce cases and 575 cases where divorce was not finalized.
The main reasons behind the divorce cases – according to the department’s statement – included anger and impulsive decisions, negative interference from relatives, disputes over social events, lack of awareness of marital rights and responsibilities, the influence of social media, economic pressures, and mutual mistreatment between spouses.
The department received 9,097 inquiries via phone, 1,102 through its website, and 896 in-person consultations, in addition to hundreds of questions via social media and text messages – according to spokesperson Ahmad Al-Harasis.
He emphasized that these figures reflect Jordanian society’s strong interest in religious matters and trust in the General Iftaa Department.
He also highlighted that the department’s media programs on social media platforms and traditional media recorded over 22 million views and interactions during the first week of Ramadan, demonstrating growing public interest in religious guidance and legal rulings.
