Hamas’ military wing, the Qassam Brigades, announced that its fighters destroyed an ‘Israeli’ armored personnel carrier (APC) with a high-explosive roadside bomb near Gaza University, south of the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City, on Friday.
In a statement, the Brigades said their fighters observed ‘Israeli’ helicopters landing at the site to evacuate the wounded. They also reported targeting a gathering of ‘Israeli’ soldiers and vehicles in the southern Zeitoun area with multiple mortar shells.
The operation follows a separate ambush on Thursday in northern Gaza, where Hamas fighters struck ‘Israeli’ forces in what the group described as a successful operation against occupying troops.
'Israeli' media also called the attack the "most serious ambush since October 7, 2023" highlighting a continued escalation in clashes across the territory.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high following reports of an alleged attempt by ‘Israeli’ forces to assassinate Abu Obaida, the masked spokesperson of the Qassam Brigades.
Hamas has cautioned the public against believing such claims, describing them as part of a psychological warfare campaign aimed at destabilizing morale within Gaza.
