AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas discussed ways to enhance and expand the long-standing strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU across various sectors.

During the meeting, Safadi and Kallas underscored the importance of advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest and reviewed regional developments as part of their ongoing coordination, according to a ministry statement.

The two officials also discussed preparations for the Jordan–EU summit set to take place in Amman on December 8, which will bring together His Majesty King Abdullah, European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Safadi commended the EU for its continued support to Jordan, highlighting the assistance provided across a range of economic and development sectors, the statement added.

During discussions on regional developments, Safadi emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to uphold the ceasefire in Gaza, fully implement its provisions, and ensure the immediate, adequate, and sustainable delivery of aid to the Strip.

He also highlighted the importance of advancing to the second phase of the agreement and linking stability to a clear political framework that would establish an independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution.

Safadi also stressed the need to stop the dangerous escalation and the illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, as well as violations of the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Safadi and Kallas also discussed developments in Syria, with Safadi reiterating Jordan’s support for Syria in its reconstruction on foundations that ensure Syria’s unity, security, sovereignty, stability, and the safety of its territory and citizens.

He also condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks and the occupation of Syrian lands, calling it a blatant breach of the sovereignty of an Arab state and a violation of the United Nations Charter.

The two sides also reiterated the strength of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU, emphasising their shared commitment to deepen cooperation across all sectors in ways that benefit both sides and support efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.

Also on Sunday, Safadi received US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz.

The meeting focused on the friendly relations between Jordan and the US and ways to enhance them in various fields.

Safadi and Waltz also discussed regional developments and the situation in Gaza, particularly the efforts to ensure the immediate, sufficient, and sustainable entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
