Jordanian security forces engaged in a violent confrontation south of Amman after a plate-less vehicle opened fire on a criminal investigation patrol, injuring a first lieutenant.
The three men inside the car abandoned it and fled into nearby residential areas, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
A PSD spokesperson said backup units were immediately dispatched to the area, leading to the arrest of two of the suspects. The third managed to escape but was later tracked down and surrounded. During the raid, the fugitive reportedly fired again at security forces, wounding a second lieutenant before being subdued.
“The rules of engagement were applied to the third wanted suspect, leading to his injury and arrest,” the spokesperson confirmed, adding that all three suspects were taken into custody and hospitalized, along with the two injured officers. Three firearms used in the attack were also seized.
According to the PSD, the suspects have extensive criminal backgrounds involving drug trafficking, theft, and illegal weapons possession. Investigators also determined the group had seized a vehicle from a citizen and refused to return it.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
