In a striking display of political sentiment, a large banner reading "Make Lebanon Great Again" has been spotted in various locations across Lebanon, accompanied by an image of Joseph Aoun, the recently elected President of Lebanon.
The banner was made by Lebanon of Tomorrow, an NGO aimed to provide social assistance and community services.
The phrase "Make Lebanon Great Again" is a clear nod to the original slogan "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) used by former US President Ronald Reagan and later popularized by Donald Trump during his presidential campaigns. Its adaptation to the Lebanese context carries a unique significance, especially as the country grapples with pressing issues such as economic instability, political corruption, and social unrest.
However, while the US version of the slogan initially carried a message of national pride and economic revival during Reagan's campaign, it has since taken on a more negative context with the Trump administration, associated with divisive politics and polarizing rhetoric.
Social media reactions to the banner have been mixed. Some users express optimism, viewing the slogan as a call for revival and reform, while others criticize it as reminiscent of the negative aspects associated with its American counterpart.
