AMMAN — The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has referred the owners of 320 food institutions around the Kingdom to court since the beginning of Ramadan, JFDA Director General Hayel Obeidat said on Wednesday.

Field inspection teams have closed 166 food institutions and suspended operations at 306, since the beginning of Ramadan, for critical health violations, Obeidat said.

He cited the use of expired food items, the production of food from materials unfit for human consumption and lack of sanitation as several of the violations that led to closures.
