US Vice President Kamala Harris declared her candidacy for the 2024 US presidential election, stepping into the race following US President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election.

Her candidacy is significant, given her potential role to be the first female, first Black, and first South Asian President in US history.

Harris's entry into the race sets up a high-profile contest against former President Donald Trump, who has declared his intention to run for the Republican nomination.
