The 193-member UN General Assembly officially commenced its first day.

 

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, inaugurated the General Assembly with the following statements:

 

Guterres: We are still witnessing horrific levels of violence and humanitarian suffering.

Guterres: Our peacekeeping missions operate in areas where there is no peace to maintain.

Guterres: The number of countries in the realm of geopolitical divisions is increasing.
