China may sell TikTok's US operations to Elon Musk: Bloomberg

Roya News

China is reportedly considering selling TikTok's US operations to Elon Musk as a potential move to prevent the app from facing an outright ban in the United States, Bloomberg News reported on Monday.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg stated that Chinese officials prefer TikTok to remain under its parent company, ByteDance.

However, with a looming US Supreme Court decision last week to uphold a TikTok ban by January 19, a day before President-elect Donald Trump takes the oath of office, Chinese authorities are exploring contingency plans.

One proposed scenario, according to the report, involves Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), taking over TikTok’s US operations and managing both platforms together.

The report also highlights that Chinese officials have yet to reach a consensus on the matter, It remains unclear how much ByteDance is aware of these discussions or whether TikTok, ByteDance, and Musk have engaged in any formal negotiations.
