AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Monday attended the ministerial meeting on Gaza, held in Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The meeting discussed efforts to sustain the ceasefire in Gaza, ensure adherence to all terms of the agreement, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip without obstacles.

It also addressed steps related to Gaza’s future governance and security, and underscored the importance of achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi emphasised the importance of ensuring full adherence to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and advancing efforts to address the devastating humanitarian consequences of the war on the Strip.

He also highlighted the need to link stabilisation efforts with a credible political horizon that leads to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

The top diplomat also underlined the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach the people of Gaza in a sufficient and sustained manner, calling on Israel to remove all obstacles to its delivery. He also emphasised the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach that ensures security, stability, and the reconstruction of the Strip.

The minister commended US President Donald Trump for his “decisive role” in securing the agreement and his vision for peace in the region. He also praised the diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in supporting the agreement, maintaining the ceasefire, and advancing the implementation of its second phase.

Safadi reiterated the importance of halting the dangerous escalation and Israel’s illegal actions in the occupied West Bank, which threaten to undermine prospects for peace. He also warned that the continuation of these measures could jeopardise all efforts to achieve stability in the region.

He expressed his gratitude to his Turkish counterpart for hosting the meeting, which included leaders of Arab and Islamic countries who had joined the US President on the sidelines of last September’s United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting was attended by the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and a Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.

The ministers agreed to maintain close consultations and coordination, emphasising the importance of combining efforts to uphold the ceasefire and achieve success in the second phase of the agreement.
