AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Saturday held an emergency meeting to address recent deaths and suffocation incidents linked to faulty heating appliances, ordering immediate measures to stop their sale and withdraw them from the market pending the outcome of technical investigations.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation(JSMO) and the security agencies to take swift action to prevent further circulation of the heaters until investigations are completed and official findings are released, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
Hassan also instructed the relevant authorities to pursue legal action against any party found to have violated the law or shown negligence in carrying out its duties, referring offenders to the public prosecutor.
The meeting, attended by the ministers of industry, trade and supply, government communication and interior, along with the director of public security and the director general of the Standards and Metrology Organisation (JSMO), underscored the need to ensure the safety and reliability of heating appliances and to tighten oversight mechanisms to guarantee full compliance with approved standards and specifications.
