The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Lower House First Deputy Speaker Nassar Qaisi on Wednesday called on the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to urge their countries' governments to support Jordan in its continued efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East through resolving the Palestinian issue.

Qaisi's speech came during his participation as the head of a Lower House delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's meetings held in Strasbourg, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Regarding US President Donald Trump's announcement on Tuesday of the so-called "deal of the century", MP Qais Zayadin said that Jordan rejects it publicly and officially, in line with His Majesty King Abdullah’s clear position on the issue.

His Majesty, in his latest speech before the European Parliament, warned of the gravity of the situation in the Middle East, stressing that a more peaceful world cannot be achieved without a stable Middle East, Zayadin added. This, the King said, requires a real peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Zayadin noted that the “real goal behind the US peace plan” is to prepare for a state of apartheid.

He described the so-called deal of the century as an unjust, one-sided deal, calling on all members of European parliaments to take a firm stance based on international legitimacy, international law and the values of justice, human rights, democracy and freedom.,

Qaisi called on members of all the parliaments of European countries to play a role in thwarting the plan and the apartheid it prepares for.

He also reiterated the need for all European countries, through their parliaments, to defend the values of justice, freedom, democracy and equality.
