AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Monday began a working visit to Brussels to participate in the fifth ministerial meeting between the European Union and the Southern Neighborhood countries.

During the visit, Safadi is scheduled to hold talks with counterparts and European commissioners, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Speaking to the press ahead of the meeting, Safadi stressed that ending the Israeli aggression on Gaza remains a top priority, underlining the urgent need to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged strip.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s readiness to send hundreds of aid trucks daily to Gaza if Israel lifts the restrictions on the entry of assistance, the statement said.

“The Euro-Mediterranean neighborhood we seek is one of security and peace,” Safadi said, emphasising that such a vision cannot be achieved without resolving the Palestinian issue on the basis of the Palestinian people’s right to an independent and sovereign state on their national soil.

He added that Arab countries participating in the meeting would deliver a clear message: “ending the aggression [against Gaza] is the top priority, international law must be upheld and applied equally to all, and no state should be above the law.”

“If we want our region to truly be a model of security, stability, peace, and development, it must also be a model in the application of international law,” Safadi said.
