AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Sunday met with the UN Secretary General's Envoy on Youth Jayathma Wickramanayake over means of cooperation between the Kingdom and the UN to empower the youth and enhance their role.

The Crown Prince highlighted during the meeting the importance of expanding the youth’s participation in the comprehensive development process, building their capabilities and adopting their creative ideas, so as to play a bigger role in building the future, according to a Royal Court statement.

The meeting reviewed the efforts and initiatives of the Crown Prince Foundation, which aim to invest in the Jordanian youth, enhance their leadership role and develop their skills, especially since young people constitute some 70 per cent of the Jordanian population.

For her part, Wickramanayake praised Crown Prince Hussein’s efforts in supporting the youth, highlighting the importance of the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on youth, peace and security.

Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security was adopted unanimously in December 2015 following the Crown Prince’s speech as the chair of a UN Security Council’s open session on the role of youth in enhancing peace and combating extremism.

Wickramanayake is on a four-day visit to the Kingdom as part of a regional tour that will subsequently take her to Palestine.
