Concert to be held by Sacred Heart Parish

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Sacred Heart Parish announced recently a concert on October 8, at the Halim Salfiti Theatre for Father John Sheehan.

According to the statement received by The Jordan Times, Father John was raised in a theatre family and sang at Radio City Music Hall in New York City as a soprano. He also received one of the first three degrees in theatre ever awarded by the University of Notre Dame, and worked in theatre and broadcasting for a number of years before entering the Jesuits.

He has performed under every contract except Broadway and has sung in solo concerts around the world in at least 12 different countries, the statement said, noting he has performed with a number of opera companies including the Amore Opera, Goldenworks, the Light Opera of Manhattan and the Village Light Opera.

When asked about his upcoming concert, Father John said in the statement he didn’t really like the word “concert”. “It makes people think of fancy dress, people standing stiffly next to a piano and an evening of nothing but singing,” he said, adding “When I perform, I want to make it entertaining, so there is a variety of music, I tell stories, it is A very informal evening, and hopefully a lot of fun.”

The show will feature genres from Broadway, folk, opera and more. The proceeds from the concert will also benefit the Care for the Poor programme at the parish, according to the release.

The e-mail sent to The Jordan Times warned that cell phones would be prohibited.

According to the statement, tickets for the concert are available at Karasi.com, the Jesuit Centre and through the Parish website at Jordanjesuits.org.
