Minister announces key Cabinet decisions taken during Balqa session

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Minister of Government Communications and official government spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Wednesday announced Cabinet decisions taken during a session held in Balqa Governorate.

Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Momani said the Cabinet approved a range of measures aimed at advancing development projects across the Kingdom’s governorates. These initiatives stem from recent field visits conducted by the prime minister.

Among the key decisions was the allocation of funds to initiate the tendering process for maintenance work at three healthcare centres in the governorates of Maan and Aqaba, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

As part of the public sector modernisation plan, Momani said that the Cabinet approved the 2025 Guidelines for Managing Future Leadership in the Public Sector. The guidelines aim to prepare a pool of qualified young leaders aligned with national priorities and capable of assuming senior positions within government institutions. Participants who complete the programme will be eligible for benefits that enhance their competitiveness for leadership roles.

Momani also said that the Cabinet also endorsed the draft bylaw establishing the 2025 Fund for Supporting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Activities and Skills Development. The bylaw would be forwarded to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau for finalisation. It aims to empower the relevant authority to oversee regulation, accreditation, and quality assurance in the education and human resources sectors.

Additionally, Momani said that the Cabinet approved the rationale for a draft administrative reorganisation bylaw for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. The bylaw, also to be submitted to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau, aims to enhance the Ministry’s operational capacity, improve transparency and align the organisational structure with the Ministry’s strategic goals, in line with the Public Sector Modernisation Roadmap and the Economic Modernisation Vision.

Momani also noted that the Council of Ministers also approved the justification for the amended Building and Zoning Regulations in Amman City for 2025. The amendment aims to extend the grace period for property owners whose buildings were constructed in 2025, allowing them to rectify their legal status by the end of this year. Previously, this grace period applied only to buildings constructed up to the end of 2024.

Momani said that the Cabinet session in Balqa was part of a broader initiative to hold meetings across all governorates, with eight having hosted sessions prior to Balqa.

Addressing the impact of regional developments on the national economy, Momani said the government is monitoring repercussions on various sectors, particularly tourism. He noted that the Social Security Investment Fund’s board was reviewing measures to support sectors most affected by ongoing regional instability, with tourism at the forefront.

Despite regional challenges, Momani highlighted promising tourism initiatives in Salt, describing them as success stories that underscore the government's commitment to supporting the sector as a key driver of the national economy.

He also announced that His Majesty King Abdullah has directed an increase in the Royal university grant quota for teachers’ children from 5 to 10 per cent, starting next academic year. The decision complements government efforts to support educators, including the allocation of 1,039 discounted land plots for teacher housing, at up to 50 per cent below market value, and the full disbursement of all pending advances to teachers who applied.
