Jordanian ministers unveil new decisions after Cabinet meeting in Irbid

Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, along with Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh and Minister of Health Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, held a press conference following today’s Cabinet session in Irbid.

Economic Measures:
 
Minister of Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh highlighted several new economic stimulus decisions aimed at boosting the real estate sector. These include a 50% reduction in property taxes on residential apartments for first-time buyers over the next three years. Additionally, apartments larger than 150 square meters will benefit from a 50% discount on registration fees, while apartments under 150 square meters continue to enjoy a 100% exemption.
 
Healthcare Initiatives:
 
Minister of Health Dr. Firas Al-Hawari shared updates on a recent site visit by the Prime Minister to the new Princess Basma Hospital. He confirmed that the hospital is set to begin trial operations in the first quarter of next year. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of three new health centers in the Sal area of Irbid, and in Hashimiyya and Halawa in Ajloun, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility in these regions.

Women's Affairs Legislation:
 
Dr. Momani shared that the Cabinet approved the reasons for drafting the National Committee for Women's Affairs Law for 2024, following recommendations from the Political Modernization Committee. This aims to establish a legal framework ensuring the committee's sustainability, independence, and financial autonomy.
 
Infrastructure Projects:
 
The Cabinet has greenlit the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in western Irbid, which will serve 17 villages and approximately 200,000 residents, addressing essential water management needs.
 
Tax Incentives for Exporters:
 
A new amendment was approved to exempt net income from the export of certain goods and services from income tax until Dec. 31, 2033, aimed at boosting the competitiveness of Jordanian exports.
 
Public Sector Reforms:
 
The Cabinet endorsed updated regulations for the Ministry of Investment, the Greater Amman Municipality Council, and staff at Al-Balqa Applied University. Additionally, guidelines were established for quantitative job evaluations, annual salary adjustments based on qualifications, and performance-based incentives in the public sector.
 
Emphasis on Project Completion:
 
Prime Minister stressed the urgency of completing delayed projects, including the new Princess Basma Hospital, as part of the government's commitment to improving public services and infrastructure.
 
These decisions reflect ongoing efforts to enhance economic growth, support public sector reforms, and improve living standards across Jordan.
