AMMAN — The Cabinet, during its session held on Sunday, decided to revoke its decision dated November 7, 2021, which had tasked the minister of health with proceeding with measures to repeal the Higher Health Council (HCC) Law No. 9 of 1999.
The decision aims to reactivate the HCC as part of efforts to boost health governance and unify reference authorities responsible for setting national health policies, in line with government efforts to develop the health sector and enhance planning efficiency and responsiveness to current and future health challenges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Minister of Health and HCC Chairman Ibrahim Bdour said that halting the procedures related to dissolving the council and moving to reactivate it represents a pivotal milestone in the path of health sector reform.
He noted that, following this decision, the council will develop health policies and strategies, ensuring coordination and integration among all relevant entities in both the public and private sectors.
The minister added that the next phase will witness organised institutional work based on evidence and scientific data, which will positively reflect on the quality of health services provided to citizens.
He stressed that HCC is the highest national authority responsible for setting health policies and coordinating efforts across the various health sectors.
Bdour pointed out that the council will contribute to rationalising health expenditure and enhancing the efficient use of resources through sound planning and coordination, in addition to supporting health decision-making based on national priorities.
He reiterated that the Ministry of Health will cooperate with all partners to activate the council’s role and enable it to perform its duties in accordance with the best international practices.
Bdour also noted that the coming period will see the activation of specialised technical committees and partnerships with academic and professional institutions, ensuring the achievement of the council’s objectives and its strategic role in supporting the national health ecosystem.
