The 'Israeli' army reportedly said Friday its forces had sealed a 7-kilometer underground tunnel allegedly used by Hamas in northern Gaza.
In a statement posted on its website, the army said the operation in the Beit Hanoun area involved pumping more than 20,000 cubic meters of insulating materials through the tunnel’s path.
Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2006, is reported to have built an extensive underground network across the coastal enclave, which is just 45 kilometers long and between 6 and 14 kilometers wide.
The total length of the tunnels was believed to be at least 500 kilometers before the outbreak of the current war.
