The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates “strongly condemned” the 'Israeli' Knesset’s preliminary approval of two bills aimed at imposing 'Israeli' sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legalizing sovereignty over one of the settlements.
The ministry considered this step a “blatant violation of international law” and a systematic undermining of the two-state solution and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, stressed the “absolute rejection and strong condemnation” by the Kingdom of any 'Israeli' attempts to impose sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian lands, affirming that “Israel has no sovereignty” over them.
Majali explained that these measures constitute a flagrant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all 'Israeli' measures aimed at changing the character and status of the occupied Palestinian territory, in addition to explicitly contradicting the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which confirmed the illegality of the occupation, annexation measures, and settlement construction.
He warned against the continuation of these illegal unilateral policies, reiterating that all 'Israeli' measures in the occupied West Bank and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem are “illegal and unlawful.”
Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, compel 'Israel' to halt its dangerous escalation and illegal measures, and fulfill the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that this is “the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.”
