AMMAN — Exports by the Irbid Chamber of Industry grew by 4.3 per cent in 2025, reaching $1.2 billion, compared with $1.1 billion in 2024.

The number of certificates of origin issued by the chamber during 2025 rose to 15,660, up from 15,298 in 2024, marking a growth rate of 2.4 per cent, the Jordan news agency, Petra, reported.

Chairman of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, Hani Abu Hassan said in a statement that the leather and garment industries ranked first in terms of contribution to Irbid Governorate’s total exports, accounting for 89 per cent. The food and agricultural industries came second with 4.8 per cent, followed by pharmaceutical industries and medical supplies at 3 per cent.

Abu Hassan noted that recent years have witnessed significant sectoral and geographical diversification in the export structure, helping reduce reliance on a single sector or market.

He added that Al Hassan Industrial City accounted for more than 96.7 per cent of total exports, followed by Cyber City with 2.6 per cent. These zones, he said, represent major hubs for industrial production in the governorate and provide an attractive environment for local and foreign investment, contributing to national economic growth and job creation.

Abu Hassan explained that the United States remains the primary destination for Irbid’s industrial exports, absorbing 69 per cent of total exports. European countries accounted for 10.4 per cent, while Arab countries made up around 11.9 per cent, in addition to other markets worldwide.

He stressed that the industrial sector in the northern region continues to demonstrate balanced performance despite regional challenges and global economic conditions. The growth recorded in 2025, he said, reflects the resilience of the industrial sector in Irbid and its growing competitiveness in international markets.

Abu Hassan also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Irbid Chamber of Industry to enhance the competitiveness of industrial companies by organizing and supporting their participation in international exhibitions, opening channels to new markets, and providing technical and advisory support to factories. This includes assistance related to quality requirements, legislation, and compliance with technical standards in target markets.

He emphasised that the next phase requires strengthening public-private partnerships and continuing to diversify the export base to ensure the sustainability of industrial export growth and to enhance its contribution to economic development.
