AMMAN — Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Basma and with the attendance of Education Minister Omar Razzaz, Haya Cultural Centre concluded “Izif”, a programme to teach music to students, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the programme, titled “Izif-teaching music at civil society centres”, music lessons were given to students at Princess Basma’s development centres, public schools and innovation centres in Amman, Irbid, Maan, Balqa, Tafileh and Karak.

The lessons were given by Jordanian musicians using instruments that were provided by Izif Company.

During the ceremony, Razzaz said that music is an essential part of education, just like poetry, literature, arts and sports, noting that music teaches teamwork, leadership and persistence.

He said that music is not a luxury but an essential part of peoples’ lives and a means to express their values and celebrate occasions.

As of the next educational year, the ministry will begin conducting school activities that focus on arts and music and will work on establishing a music centre at every education directorate, Razzaz noted.

During the event, 40 students who benefitted from the programme performed a number music pieces and songs in Arabic and English.

The programme was implemented with the support of King Abdullah II Fund for Development, USAID, Bank Al Etihad and Zain Jordan, and in partnership with The Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, Ruwwad Centre, Ibbaa Centre in Karak and King Hussein Cancer Centre.
