AMMAN — The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Sunday announced that all government employees, wishing to run for the 19th Parliament, must submit their resignations before Thursday, September 10.
IEC media spokesperson, Jihad Momani, said that announcement targets public employees who assume positions in government entities, government-owned companies, or state-controlled companies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The resignation condition applies to presidents and members of the boards of trustees of Jordanian universities, social security employees who are not members of the board of directors of the Social Security Corporation, employees of Aqaba Development Corporation, the National Committee of Dams, phosphate and potash companies and the Royal Jordanian airlines, he said.
The candidacy will not be officially approved unless the official's resignation letter is attached, he added, noting that resignation must be submitted at least 60 days before the election date.
