Physician found dead in Zarqa, police suspect foul play

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Police on Wednesday said they are investigating the death of a man in Zarqa, which reportedly occurred earlier in the day, official sources said.

The victim was found dead in his home in Zarqa in the early morning hours, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The victim’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine (NIFM) for an autopsy,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

Meanwhile, a senior source said on Wednesday that the victim was a physician and that he was “murdered”.

“It seems from the initial examination of the body that victim was murdered and that bruises were detected on different parts of his body,” the senior official source told The Jordan Times.

A Zarqa City Facebook page stated that the victim lived alone in his house in the city centre and that the body was found by one of his relatives.

A senior medical source told The Jordan Times that a team of forensic experts are expected to perform an autopsy on the victim’s body on Thursday morning.

"We will hopefully have more answers to what really happened to the victim once the autopsy was performed,” the senior medical source said.

The Criminal Court prosecutor is currently investigating the case, while police said they are still investigating the incident and would not reveal any further information.

“The criminal lab collected evidence from the scene as well as blood and tissue samples from the body for further analysis,” according to the senior medical source.
