On Wednesday, His Majesty King Abdullah II, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a tripartite summit in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia.

 

The fourth edition of the Jordanian-Cypriot-Greek summit focused on enhancing cooperation between the three countries across various sectors, building on the strong relationships that bind them, and addressing regional developments.

 

During the summit, King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening joint efforts with Cyprus and Greece. The leaders emphasized the importance of leveraging regional cooperation opportunities, particularly in energy, trade, and tourism.

 

The leaders also discussed the need to focus on economic integration among the three nations and enhance cooperation in addressing the impacts of climate change, including natural disasters, drought, desertification, and forest fires.

 

At the summit, the leaders signed three memorandums of understanding aimed at stimulating private sector investments, promoting water sustainability, and increasing collaboration in the field of education. They noted that these agreements would elevate the level of cooperation between the three countries and build on the outcomes of previous tripartite summits.

 

King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s eagerness to host the next tripartite summit, emphasizing the importance of the partnership between Jordan and the European Union, and the need for continued Arab-European coordination on issues of mutual interest.

 

The tripartite cooperation between Jordan, Cyprus, and Greece began in 2018, aiming to expand economic collaboration and build on the strong relations shared by these nations.

 

Regarding regional developments, the leaders highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, protect civilians, and enhance humanitarian response in the region. They also warned of the dangers posed by extremist settlers’ violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and emphasized the need for a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.

 

King Abdullah underscored the continued efforts to ensure the success of the ceasefire in Lebanon, reaffirming Jordan’s support for Lebanon’s security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.

 

The summit also addressed the Syrian refugee crisis, stressing the importance of the international community taking responsibility for Syrian refugees and the countries hosting them.

 

The summit was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the Royal Hashemite Court Engineer Alaa Al-Batayneh, Director of the General Intelligence Department Major General Ahmad Husni, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Cyprus Bashir Al-Zu'bi.
