AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday condemned continued incursions by Israeli extremists into Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, as “provocative” and a violation of international law.

In a statement, the ministry denounced attempts by Israeli extremists to bring sacrificial offerings into one of Al Aqsa Compound’s courtyards on Friday, calling the act a “desecration of the holy site and an unacceptable reckless act.”

It stressed that Israel “has no sovereignty over Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al-Sharif.”

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali voiced Jordan’s rejection of the repeated incursions and provocative practices, which he denounced as a “flagrant violation” of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites.

Majali said Israel, the occupying power, is attempting to impose new realities aimed at dividing the compound “temporally and spatially.”

He also warned against the consequences of continued “illegal and provocative violations” targeting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, urging the international community to take a firm stance and pressure Israel to halt its “ongoing unlawful practices.”

The spokesperson said that the violations reflected policies of Israel’s “extremist government” aimed at escalating tensions and continuing unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.

He reiterated Jordan’s position that the entire 144-dunam Al Aqsa Mosque Compound is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.

He added that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, which operates under Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, remains the sole legal authority responsible for administering the site and regulating entry into it.
