AMMAN — The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has launched the Engineering Industries Sector Strategy for 2026–2029, targeting total sector exports of JD2.5 billion by 2033 and core engineering exports of JD1.043 billion by 2029.

Prepared with support from the Economic Reform Programme and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the strategy aims to create 15,000 direct jobs by 2031, increase local value addition and attract investment, Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The sector comprises around 4,800 facilities employing 35,200 workers. In 2024, core engineering exports stood at JD639.2 million, while total sector exports reached JD1.3648 billion.

The strategy also aims to double fixed capital formation in metal products and electrical equipment by 2029 and ensure that women account for at least 20 per cent of new jobs.

It seeks to address challenges including high energy costs and supply chain vulnerabilities, while capitalising on shifts in global supply chains, free trade agreements and demand linked to reconstruction in Syria.

The strategy is built around three pillars covering local value chains, institutional capacity and export market diversification. It includes five initiatives focusing on local content, the Zarqa Engineering Innovation Centre, compliance with green industry requirements, the “Made in Jordan” brand and specialised investment.

Priority subsectors include metal products, electrical equipment and metal furniture, in line with the Economic Modernisation Vision.
