AMMAN — The Eastern Military Region on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the Kingdom using guided balloons, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said.

Border guard forces detected the balloons as they attempted to cross into Jordanian territory within the region’s area of responsibility.

The forces intercepted and brought down the balloons inside Jordan and seized the narcotics in coordination with relevant military and security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, according to a JAF statement.

The seized materials were handed over to the competent authorities for legal action.

The JAF reaffirmed the readiness and capability of its border guard units to counter smuggling and infiltration attempts and safeguard the Kingdom’s security and stability.
