AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday held talks with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Bader Abdel Aaty, focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza.

The two ministers reaffirmed the strength of the longstanding relations between Jordan and Egypt, stressing their shared commitment to further expanding cooperation across various sectors, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The Amman-held discussions centred on regional developments, with particular emphasis on Gaza, with Safadi and Abdel Aaty stressing the need to uphold the ceasefire agreement and fully implement its provisions in line with the plan announced by US President Donald Trump.

They underlined the importance of ensuring the immediate, sufficient and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the war-torn Strip without obstacles.

The ministers also emphasised the need to pave the way for the return of the Palestinian National Authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza, while preserving the unity of Palestinian territory between the West Bank and Gaza.

They reiterated the importance of advancing towards a clear political horizon that realises an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Safadi and Abdel Aaty welcomed the formation of the Palestinian national committee to administer Gaza, the announcement of the launch of the second phase of the comprehensive peace plan, and the establishment of the Peace Council.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the implementation of the Peace Council mandate as a transitional body, as outlined in the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza and as endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

The two ministers warned of the risks posed by illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, saying such actions threaten to escalate tensions, undermine de-escalation efforts and weaken prospects for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution as the only path to security, stability and lasting peace in the region.

The talks also covered a number of issues of mutual interest, with both sides affirming continued coordination and joint action to support regional security and stability and advance Arab causes.
