Dozens of Palestinian civilians were killed and injured on November 13 in the Sudanese roundabout area northwest of Gaza City in what the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has dubbed "the new flour massacre."

 

The civilians, desperate for food aid after over seven weeks of supply cut-offs, had gathered on the coastal road, awaiting humanitarian assistance that had yet to arrive.

 

At approximately 10:00 AM, as aid convoys were expected, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) reportedly opened fire on the group, forcing many to take cover in a nearby residential building.

 

Moments later, witnesses say the building was hit by an airstrike, collapsing on those inside. Emergency workers are unable to access the area, as ongoing shelling and blocked routes have made it hazardous for rescue teams.

 

Eyewitnesses recount harrowing scenes of civilians scrambling to find safety amidst dire shortages of food and essential supplies across Gaza. After being cut off from aid for nearly two months, residents had begun seeking food wherever possible.

 

“People came out just hoping for a chance to get flour for their families,” shared one local resident. “They had no idea it would turn into this nightmare.”

 

The incident occurred as Gaza faces an escalating humanitarian crisis, with medical facilities, emergency services, and municipal infrastructure overwhelmed.

 

An estimated 200 people were in the vicinity of the roundabout during the attack, with initial reports suggesting 70 casualties among the dead and wounded. Further, dozens remain missing, feared trapped in the rubble.

 

The limited capacity of Gaza’s civil defense teams, compounded by damage to their equipment and ongoing security risks, has prevented rescuers from reaching the site to help those potentially still alive beneath the debris.

 

For over three weeks, emergency vehicles have faced destruction and confiscation, and numerous rescue personnel have been unable to reach affected zones due to security restrictions.

 

The aggression on Gaza has escalated into one of the region's most severe humanitarian crises. Pressure mounts on the global community to facilitate a humanitarian corridor for essential goods, restore water and sanitation systems, and enable safe access for medical and relief teams.
