Jordan condemns decision classifying UNRWA as terrorist organization

Jordan has condemned the decision by the Knesset to classify the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates considered this classification an attempt to politically assassinate the agency and target its symbolism, which reaffirms the rights of Palestinian refugees to return and compensation according to international law.

Sufyan Qudah, the official spokesperson for the ministry, stated on Monday that “Israel's” repeated statements and actions aimed at undermining UNRWA’s essential role in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people represent a blatant violation of international law and Tel Aviv’s obligations as an occupying power.

Qudah emphasized the critical role played by the agency in delivering essential services to Palestinian refugees in its areas of operation, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing aggression since October 7.

He stressed the importance of the international community continuing to provide the necessary political and financial support for the agency to ensure its vital humanitarian role until a just solution to the Palestinian issue is reached based on the two-state solution. This solution should guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty based on the June 4, 1967 borders.
