AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met on Tuesday with Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Xavier Bettel in a meeting that focused on regional developments and efforts to stop the aggression on Gaza, ensure the protection of civilians, and deliver adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the strip, which is suffering an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe due to the ongoing and continuous Israeli aggression since October 7.

 

 

In a joint press conference after the meeting, Safadi said, "Today, we continued our discussions on our bilateral relations and the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which continues to claim lives, undermine international law, and commit war crimes against the Palestinian people."

 

He added, "We want this war to end, and we want peace for the region, ensuring the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state that lives in security and peace alongside Israel on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital."

 

Safadi said that the Israeli aggression on Gaza killed more than 39,000 Palestinians, highlighting, "Just two days ago, Israel committed a massacre against innocent Palestinian children in an area it had declared as a safe haven, but everyone knows there is no safe place in Gaza anymore."

 

He added that "the international community has failed to hold Israel accountable and implement international law, the UN Charter, and human values, and to stop the killing of innocents".

 

Safadi said, "We are working with our partners to address the humanitarian disaster that Palestinians in Gaza are suffering from because Israel is using  starvation as a weapon."

 

Regarding the refugee crisis, Safadi said, "Refugee issues are a global challenge, and therefore, they are a global responsibility, not just the responsibility of host countries."

 

Safadi stressed the importance of the role played by UNRWA towards Palestinians in Gaza.

 

Bettel appreciated the Kingdom's role in hosting refugees, providing vital services to them, and the role Jordan plays in the region.

 

Bettel highlighted the partnership between Jordan and Luxembourg within the framework of the European Union, and the mutual commitment to enhancing it, pointing to the 15th meeting of the Jordan-EU Partnership Council held on Monday in Brussels, which reflects the depth of relations between the EU and Jordan.

 

Bettel also stressed the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and protecting civilians. 

 

 

Safadi also met with the Speaker of the Lower House in Luxembourg Claude Wiseler and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Gusty Graas, in a meeting that addressed the relations between the two countries and the mutual commitment to developing them in various fields and within the framework of the EU partnership. 

 

The meeting also discussed regional developments and efforts to stop the aggression on Gaza, and the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
