I mocked all the time. Italian journalist compensates prime minister with €5,000

A Milan court has awarded a journalist 5,000 euros ($5,465) in compensation to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for mocking her in a social media post, Italian news agency ANSA and local media said.

The court also imposed an additional €1,200 suspended fine on journalist Julia Cortízi for her mockery in October 2021 on platform "X" of Meloni's length.

The court said it was criticism of the external body for belittling and insulting the "mockery of the body shape".

Meloni took legal action against the journalist after an argument between them on social media.

Meloni, whose party was the brothers of the far-right opposition Italy at the time, objected when the journalist posted a satirical photo of herself with the late fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the background.

Cortez responded with other tweets at the time, including a tweet in which she said: "You don't scare me, Gorgia Meloni. After all, you're only 1.2 meters tall. I can't even see you."

The journalist can appeal the verdict.

Meloni's lawyer said the prime minister would donate to charities any compensation she might receive.
