Authorities alert drivers about high water levels in Amman

Roya News

Amman’s streets are experiencing significant water accumulation after heavy rainfall over the past few hours.

This marks the first major downpour of the rainy season, as Jordan is currently impacted by a low-pressure system accompanied by a cold, wet air mass that began on Monday.

The Traffic Department issued warnings about rising water levels on several roads, urging drivers to remain cautious. Weather forecasts indicate a sharp drop in temperatures, with very cold, cloudy conditions and rain of varying intensity across northern, central, and parts of eastern Jordan, according to a statement shared with Roya.

The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) expects heavy rain at times, with potential thunderstorms and hail, raising the risk of flash floods and water accumulation in valleys and low-lying areas.

The cold air mass will intensify on Tuesday, leading to further temperature drops. Heavy rain is forecast, particularly in western regions.

The Sharah Mountains might see a mix of rain and snow early in the day, with brief episodes of freezing rain possible over high peaks in the northern and central regions.

Furthermore, Wednesday will bring a slight rise in daytime temperature with foggy conditions, but the night will be very cold, with frost likely over mountainous and desert areas.

The JMD continues to caution against floods, slippery roads, and high water levels, urging the public to avoid flood-prone areas.
