The recent bout of unstable weather that hit Jordan last Wednesday boosted seasonal rainfall averages by up to 52 percent in 48 hours, particularly in the southern and eastern regions, according to Raed Al-Khattab, director of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Most areas across the country received rainfall, with concentrations in the south, east, and parts of the central region.

Al-Khattab noted that the highest recorded rainfall was at Wadi Al-Dhulail station, which measured 24.5 mm—18 percent of its annual average—followed by Al-Rabba station with 24.3 mm (7 percent), Southern Azraq with 22.5 mm (38 percent), and Ma’an with 21.5 mm (52 percent).

In the capital, Amman, the highest rainfall was recorded at Amman Civil Airport station with 14.6 mm (11 percent), followed by Queen Alia International Airport with 10 mm (7 percent).

With further rainfall expected as unstable weather continues to affect the country, Al-Khattab said precipitation levels are likely to rise, further improving seasonal averages – in statements cited by the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
