AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday commended HRH Crown Prince Hussein's announcement on the reactivation of the national military service programme, expressing the Cabinet’s appreciation for the guidance and directives of His Majesty King Abdullah and the Crown Prince in preparing the initiative.
During a Cabinet session, Hassan said that the government would implement the programme in cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), with operations set to begin at the start of next year.
The prime minister also said that resources would be allocated from this year’s emergency expenditures and the 2026 budget to support preparations, with details of the programme to be rolled out gradually, expected in the coming weeks, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
Hassan also noted that the government would urgently submit the draft amendments to the National Military Service and Reserve Service Law to the Parliament once the next session convenes.
Meanwhile, Minister of Government Communications Mohammed Momani said the government and the JAF are working under the guidance of His Majesty and the Crown Prince to reactivate the programme.
Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, added that the programme would target youth, who will form the 54th cohort of compulsory service. He also said that the new National Military Service Programme aims to develop young people physically, intellectually and culturally, while strengthening national identity, discipline and commitment to the JAF.
