Kingdom's industrial production index rises 0.48% in 2024, driven by gains in mining, electricity

AMMAN — The industrial production index rose from the start of 2024 through September, reaching 87.63 points, up from 87.22 points during the same period last year, an increase of 0.48 per cent.
According to the monthly report issued on Monday by the Department of Statistics (DoS), the cumulative index for the first nine months of 2024 showed a 0.28 per cent decline in manufacturing sector production, an 8.34 per cent increase in extractive industries, and a 5.41 per cent rise in electricity production.
In September, the overall industrial production index increased by 3.41 per cent year-on-year, reaching 89.83 points compared with 86.87 points in September 2023.
The growth was driven by a 3.35 per cent rise in manufacturing, a 7.46 per cent increase in extractive industries, and a 0.71 per cent boost in electricity production, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
On a month-to-month basis, the index decreased by 1.17 per cent, falling from 90.89 points in August 2024 to 89.83 points in September.
By sector, manufacturing production saw an increase of 0.01 per cent, while production in extractive industries dropped by 4.47 per cent, and electricity production fell by 14.63 per cent.
