US backs 'Israel’s' "right to defend itself" against Lebanon

The US State Department reaffirmed on Saturday 'Israel’s' right to defend itself against attacks from Lebanon amid rising regional tensions.

A spokesperson stated that 'Israel' has the right to respond to rocket fire from "terrorists" and called on the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah and other militant groups to prevent future attacks.

On Dec. 2, 2024, France reported that 'Israel' had violated the ceasefire 52 times. The Israeli Occupation's largest breach came on Friday when it launched an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs—the first such attack since the truce began on Nov. 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned 'Israeli' strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs during talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Cypriot President, and Greek Prime Minister. He accused 'Israel' of violating agreements brokered by France and the US, warning that such actions threaten regional stability.

Aoun urged the international community to intervene, emphasizing Lebanon’s commitment to peace and the need for 'Israel' to comply with existing agreements. He also addressed Lebanon’s economic crisis and the ongoing Syrian refugee situation, calling for international support.
