Jordan, Syria discuss strengthening ties amid transition

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, held a phone call today with Asaad Al-Shaibani, the foreign minister of Syria’s new administration.
 
The two officials discussed developments in Syria and ways to cooperate in addressing challenges during the country's transitional phase.

Safadi and Al-Shaibani agreed to organize an official visit to Jordan for a Syrian ministerial delegation, including military and security officials. The visit will focus on strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as border security, energy, transportation, water, and trade.
 
Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s full support for Syria and its people during this historic period, emphasizing the importance of a Syrian-led political process to rebuild the country, ensure stability, preserve its unity and sovereignty, combat terrorism, and protect the rights of all Syrians.

Al-Shaibani expressed Syria’s commitment to enhancing its relations with Jordan and appreciated the kingdom’s support during this critical phase.
 
Safadi had previously met with Syria’s new leader, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, on Dec. 23, 2024, where he reiterated Jordan’s readiness—under the directives of King Abdullah II—to provide all necessary assistance to help Syrians rebuild their country and achieve their aspirations.
